What makes an LED display suitable for FIDS applications?
A FIDS-grade LED display must sustain 24/7 continuous operation without brightness degradation, deliver text clarity at the fine pixel pitches (P1.2–P2.5) needed for readable gate codes and departure times at 4–15 m, support multi-source processor redundancy so a single signal failure does not black out a terminal, and allow front-service module replacement in a live operational environment. Aurora indoor fine-pitch cabinets meet all four criteria and ship with full RCM documentation for airport procurement compliance teams.
What pixel pitch should a flight information display use?
Reading distance determines pixel pitch. For gate-level FIDS read from 4–8 m, P1.5–P2.5 is standard. For larger concourse overview displays read from 8–20 m, P2.5–P4 is appropriate. A useful guide is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres roughly equals the pixel pitch in millimetres — so a P2 cabinet is clear from 2 m and beyond.
Can Aurora FIDS displays integrate with airport content management systems?
Yes. Aurora LED cabinets are content-source agnostic and accept HDMI, DVI, SDI and IP-based signal paths, allowing them to connect to any airport CMS or FIDS platform that outputs a standard video or IP signal. We can also recommend and integrate compatible CMS platforms as part of the system scope.
What redundancy is available for mission-critical terminal displays?
Aurora FIDS systems can be configured with dual processor inputs (primary and failover), redundant power supplies within each cabinet, and a ring-network signal topology so a single cable or receiver failure leaves the remaining displays live. We document the redundancy architecture in the system specification for airport operations sign-off.
